Four Ways to Experience Wholeness During Seasons of Loneliness
Growing up, I always felt something was missing in my life. Despite my Christian upbringing and education, I always felt that if I wasn’t connected to certain people or possessed certain things, I was incomplete. I strived for attention, relationships, acceptance and success. However, no matter what I filled my life with through earthly things, I always felt incomplete, and was always seeking after more. That is, until I really knew and accepted Jesus. I knew who Jesus was in my head, but I had not yet made him the completing factor in my heart. Without Jesus, I would never feel satisfied. Even after my encounter with Christ, I had to renew my mind and emotions. While we are on this earth, our minds and emotions will feel loneliness because we live in an imperfect world with things that will fade away and people who will fail, including you and me! Anything on this earth that we try to replace Jesus with will always leave us feeling incomplete.
However, as children of God we were already made complete by the finished work of Jesus. “But the person who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with him” (1 Corinthians 6:17). His body was broken so we could be made whole. His sacrifice paved the way for us to be completely restored to God. “So you are also complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority” (Colossians 2:10).
If you are feeling incomplete during this season of earthly loneliness, here are 4 steps you can take to help you be free to experience your completeness in Christ:
1) Ask the Holy Spirit to shine His light on every area you see your life as incomplete and write each area down.
2) As you look at your list and those people and things are revealed, repent for placing value on those areas for making you feel complete and whole above God and the finished work of Jesus.
3) Ask God to help you have a revelation of His Word, and to help replace who and what you are not or never will be to others and who and what others are not and will never be to you with a fresh perspective of who you are to Jesus and who Jesus is to you!
4) Start living like you are complete in God, because you are! In your everyday life, talk to Him and let Him be a part of every area of your life. Personalize the Word with your name and remember who you are in Jesus.
No matter how lonely you are on the earth, finding the completeness that was already paid in full by Jesus will transform every part of your life. The earthly things you once desired to fill those empty spaces may or may not come to pass, but if you are complete in Jesus, you will know that He has His best for you in His best timing. Nothing will ever make you feel complete unless Jesus is the center of your life and the accepted and the acknowledged source of your wholeness.
Remember, in Jesus, you are completely accepted, and completely loved and completely completed!
