The Moldy Basement Parable-Part Two
You last read about how God protected me and my family from great danger. After a horrific flood and the complete destruction of my finished basement, the deadly mold was exposed, and it took those unexpected and initially unwelcome series of events for the danger to be revealed. What I thought was a perfect home had some deadly attributes that were exposed just in time. I ended last week with thanksgiving to God for revealing and protecting us from the hidden dangers that if not exposed would result in deadly consequences.
It seems like a good ending but God was not done. Once we left the house, I was waiting for an estimate from mold remediation company. I had no idea what to expect. All I knew was that I spent every last penny on the house and the flood and mold exposure took place exactly 3 months from the day I bought the house.
I received the phone call that the entire basement would have to be gutted. Everything that would be needed to be done ensure it was safe to return home was estimated at thousands of dollars. I was devastated. I did not have that kind of money and I did not know what I was going to do. As hard as it was at the time being in the middle of this huge obstacle, I remembered that God protected me and my family from hidden dangers because He loved me. In fact, He wanted to do much more than reveal, expose and protect us. He wanted to show me that He was our provider and restorer.
I headed over to the house with my mom to meet with the manager of the remediation company to go over the estimate in person. I did not know what I was going to do; I simply had to trust God. The manager handed me the list and I started to feel lightheaded as I read line by line the work that would need to be done and the cost for each service.
What happened next nearly made me pass out in shock. The manager told me that he was a Christian and that he knew that I was a single mom and was struggling. Every year they help one person, family or organization and after praying about it he took the estimate out of my hand and told me that this year they selected me and were going to do the remediation free of charge. Almost $15,000 worth of debt canceled before my eyes!
My eyes welled up with tears once again because I realized God’s love for me even deeper. After He revealed, exposed and protected, and once I had a heart of thanksgiving and trust, He provided everything I needed through the kindness and generosity of that manager. I will never forget his Christ-like kindness for as long as I live.
Every time a hard time comes, or what seems to be an impossible situation arises, I remember this moment, and know that God has been, is and will always be faithful.
Reflect Can you reflect on a time that God met an unexpected need through the kindness of others? When has God made that seemed to be an impossible situation possible in your life? Write down as many as you can remember.
Meditate Read the following scriptures, and ask the Holy Spirit to show you the life lessons you can apply to your life right now.
